To start with, answer this question. What is the one thing common between N Sankar of Sanmar Group, N Srinivasan of India Cements, M V Subbiah of Murugappa Group, Dr. P.C. Reddy of Apollo Hospitals, Kalanidhi Maran of Sun Group? Well, some of you guessed it right. They all are some of the illustrious past awardees of TiE Chennai Entrepreneur Awards, given every year at the annual TIECON Chennai event. Well, it is no surprise why the list of nominees has been increasing with each year and the process of arriving at the final choices getting more and more difficult as well.
Talking about the process, we thought it would be a good idea to briefly share the gruelling sorting and selection of the finalists that the jury each year goes through (by the way, the jury itself is like the awardees – full of icons from business and government). The initial short listing is based on multiple parameters including long term business strategy, profitability of the company, return on investment and growth, leadership, culture and values, investment in employees, innovation to address market needs and contribution to the community among others. The weightage varies depending on the category. The shortlisted ones are then debated within the jury and the winners chosen over multiple sittings and heated discussions.
Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman of the TiE Chennai Entrepreneur Awards Committee, and who spends his time actively in pivoting the entire awards process till the final announcement on stage at the event says,” I am happy to see the awards growing in stature, as also the increasing interest with each passing year. Recognition is a key incentive for entrepreneurs besides the inspiration it provides to wannabe entrepreneurs. It is a key element of what TiE Chennai does to promote entrepreneurship and the members of the jury and I are happy to shoulder this responsibility for the past few years. By the way, the jury has since shortlisted the finalists for each categories and is in the process of picking out the winners.”
Whatever happens on November 24th and irrespective of who are the winners that morning, one thing is sure- the tradition of the past years will be only bettered, the awardees entirely deserving,,and adding sheen to the TiE Chennai Entrepreneur Award, which is already among the state of TamilNadu’s most prestigious and sought after entrepreneurial awards. To add to the excitement, there are two new categories added for this year namely – ‘Young Entrepreneur of the year’ and ‘Social Impact of the year’. Started guessing the winners this year????
