About

TiE’s mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, and education. Dedicated to the virtuous cycle of wealth creation and giving back to the community, TiE’s focus is on generating and nurturing our next generation of entrepreneurs. TiE was founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and senior professionals with roots in the Indus region. There are currently more than 11,000 members and over 2,400charter members in 54 chapters across 13 countries, to make TiE the largest global non-profit for Entrepreneurship development. The foremost and most widely known flagship event that TiE hosts is TiECON – the largest professional and Networking conference for entrepreneurs. TiE also hosts a wide range of programs including Special Interest Groups (SIGs), TiE Institute, Deal Flow Meetings, TiE Young Entrepreneurs, and, most recently, TiE Women’s Forum and CEO Forum.

About TiE CHENNAI

TiE Chennai is an active chapter with over 90 Charter Members and 300 Associate Members. The chapter is focused on inspiring, educating and mentoring entrepreneurs in Chennai and TamilNadu. TiE Chennai holds regular events on its own, as well as through partnerships, where Entrepreneurs, Business Leaders, SMEs, VCs, Govt. bodies come together and deliver programs on success stories, business opportunities, building enterprises, raising capital, networking, etc. TiE Chennai is a not-for-profit organisation.

Some of the TiE CHENNAI’s regular activities are:

My Story Sessions – A monthly event conducted for members of TiE, wherein established entrepreneurs talk about their experiences while as a start up and how they progressed through their journey in various stages.

Coffee with Chartter Member– A monthly event that focuses on one-on-one meetings. Charter Members meet with startups and Associate Members to advice and mentor these entrepreneurs on key areas of their businesses.

Mentoring Workshops

  • Mentors are enlisted from among the Charter Members.
  • Mentees can be from Associate Members or other budding entrepreneurs.
  • Help develop leadership skills and knowledge skills in mentees.
  • Launched Remote Mentoring for members, to leverage global pool of Mentors

Venture Capital Events – Signature events that happen every quarter for members that focuses on meeting new VCs and Angel Investors. Various topics like preparing a business plan, importance of a core team, readiness to attract capital at various stages of the business, etc. are covered.

Associate Member Networking – A monthly event focusing on members meeting each other in a common platform to discuss their business domains and spend time networking with new members.

Business Plan Competition – LIBA-TIE Chennai Business Plan Competition. In 2009, this competition attracted over 200 business plans and 20 were short-listed for Round 2. Out of these, 10 were chosen to make their presentation in a grand finale organised during TiECON Chennai 2009.

Partnered Events – TiE Chennai partners with other entities, such as Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA), Great Lakes Institute of Management, NEN, IIT and Microsoft Bizspark, to conduct special events for entrepreneurs.

Monthly Featured Events– feature guest speakers and/ or panels on a variety of subjects (e.g. Microfinance, Doing business in Israel), open to Charter Members, Associate Members and guests.
